An Evening with Lost Lagers: Retapping Senate Maerzen - Brookland

  • Right Proper Brookland 920 Girard Street Northeast Washington, DC, 20017 United States (map)

On Friday, February 21, come see Lost Lagers founders Mike Stein and Pete Jones discuss Senate Maerzen, the historic beer recreated from a 1933 recipe.

Lost Lagers, Right Proper, and The Heurich House Museum partnered and worked collaboratively in the production of this beer. The Heurich House Museum honestly explores the American Experience through the legacy of German immigrant Christian Heurich and his Washington, DC brewery, and creates an equitable path to success for local small-scale businesses. The label for Senate Maerzen was designed by artist Mike Van Hall.

Lost Lagers, DC's premier beverage research firm, will provide sensory samples of malts and hops, so you can smell the raw ingredients that went into Senate Maerzen. As you munch on Munich malt and sniff some Saaz hops, Stein and Jones will illuminate six-month old Maerzen as this special keg of lager is tapped. Christian Heurich was the owner of DC's biggest brewery and was at one point the largest employer in the District after the federal government.

Come see Lost Lagers, read a 1933 recipe, and familiarize yourself with how beer has changed from 1933 to 2025 and enjoy a pint of DC beer history.
